Department of Planning and Community Development (DPCD)
One of DPCD’s key responsibilities is the implementation of “Melbourne @ 5 million”, the State Government’s policy to guide the significant growth of our city. It is essential that this growth recognises and adds to Melbourne’s valued sense of place. DPCD considers the Melbourne Place Making Series an effective vehicle for fostering the necessary place making skills within the development community.

City of Melbourne
Melbourne is seen nationally and internationally as a leader in the field of Place Making. However, many in the development industry and the broader community lack understanding and knowledge in the subject of place making and the value of good place making. If Melbourne is to retain its status as a liveable city during a period of rapid growth with Melbourne @ 5 Million in 2030 we need to further interrogate the subject of place making. The City of Melbourne is interested in having a debate and dialogue with key decision makers in the development, finance and community sectors to further understand the drivers behind good place making and how to make it happen.

Federation Square is Melbourne’s community heart. It has become a remarkable convergence of design, space, activity and community oriented management.
The practice of evolving great places is core business for Fed Square Pty Ltd. Through these robust debates, observations, challenges and generously given experience and advice, it hopes to help transform the way diverse practitioners work together for long term viability and vitality in our cities and towns.

Village Well
For Village Well, the Melbourne Place Making Series is part of a larger global movement of return to Place and the Local. It is about asking the hard questions: What are we creating? What legacy are we leaving for this generation and future ones? Our commitment is to build a body of knowledge, wisdom and practice that will catalyse transformative ideas and practices to renew, revitalise and create Great Places for all. Village Well hopes the Melbourne Place Making Series and Conversation will create a new language of Place and Place Making, setting new future directions that put people and place first.
